Creating comments
You can add stand-alone comments to an item or reply to an existing comment (discussion). For information about adding comments to a discussion, see Replying to comments. For information about adding parts to an existing comment that you have created, see Adding comment parts.
Note Comments are permanent and cannot be deleted but they can be edited as described in Viewing and editing comments.
Besides comment text, you can attach a file to a comment, for example, to illustrate the changes requested by the comment text. You can only attach one file per comment.
The file formats supported for comment attachments are:
- GIF
- JPG, JPEG
- TIF, TIFF
- PNG
- TXT
- HTML
This list can be extended by a system administrator. For more information, consult a system administrator or see the Project Portal Configuration Guide.
Image files (.gif, .jpg, .jpeg, .tif, .tiff and .png) that are attached to a comment are displayed inline with the text in the comments view. Text files (.txt, .html) are shown as an icon with the file name and the file size unless no comment text is typed, in which case the contents of the file are shown as the comment text.
Before you begin
To perform this task, you must be the owner of the document or a member of an access group that has been assigned an access profile with the Add permission for comments.
To create a comment:
- Open the item's property page as described in Viewing and editing folder properties or Viewing and editing document properties accordingly.
- In the ribbon, in the Collaboration group, click Add comment. An empty comments form appears.
- Click options or type values using the descriptions in the following table.
- Click Save comment. The comments view appears showing the new comment.
